Before we start the discussion of mesothelioma symptoms we shall take a closer look at what this disease really is. We hear and read about this disease in the media every day but just a few of us actually know what this disease is about. According to the Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary, © 2002 Merriam-Webster, Inc., mesothelioma is:
• "A usually malignant tumor of mesothelial tissue, especially that of the pleura or peritoneum."
• "A rare neoplasm derived from the lining cells of the pleura and peritoneum and growing as a thick sheet composed of spindle cells or fibrous tissue covering the viscera. "
• "A rare form of carcinoma of the mesothelium lining lungs or abdomen or heart; usually associated with exposure to asbestos dust"
Mesothelioma symptoms may not be so apparent until the exposed persons acquire the age status of about fifty or sixty. In young age, the patients often reveal no clear symptoms that make the suspicion of this kind of problem.
You can approach the Asbestos cancer lawyer, once you have been exposed to the mesothelioma signs. If the pleural tissues are affected, then the affected persons will have difficulties in breathing or they experience the short breath. Further, there may be fluid accumulation in case of pleural layers and may cause the pain in the chest region.
However, the fluid accumulation is found in the abdominal cavity in case of persons affected by the peritoneal mesothelioma. Abdominal pain is the main concern for these patients.
If the cancerous areas are wide spread in the abdominal cavity, then the clinical signs are more pronounced with occurrence of vomiting or gas accumulation frequently in the abdominal region.
